Compatibility
You should read this section to ensure that your Atari ST model is compatible with the SidecarTridge TOS emulator. Please find your motherboard model number in the list below to determine compatibility and verify that the number of ROMs matches the supported configuration. If your motherboard is not listed, or if you have any doubts about compatibility, please contact us for further assistance.

Firmware, SWITCHER and rescue switcher versions
v4.0.0
The firmware, the SWITCHER and the rescue switcher talk to each other, so their versions must match:

SWITCHER 3.x and the rescue switcher 3.1.0 stop with a “not compatible” message under firmware v4.0.0, and the 4.0.0 programs refuse an older firmware. When you upgrade a board, replace all three: Upgrading to v4.0.0.
Supported Atari ST Motherboards and Carrier Boards
The tables below tell you whether your motherboard is supported by the SidecarTridge TOS emulator and how many ROM chips it has. To know which specific SidecarTridge TOS emulator kit you need to order for that motherboard, see the kit table in Before You Buy.
Carrier boards for non supported motherboards are in active development. Please check the SidecarTridge website for updates.

Motherboards listed as Not supported either use a ROM socket layout for which no carrier board has been developed yet, or have hardware characteristics that the SidecarTridge TOS Emulator cannot currently emulate. MagiC 6.30: build the ROM in your browser
MagiC is the multitasking alternative operating system for the Atari ST family by Andreas Kromke, the author of KAOS. Kromke published the complete MagiC sources under the GPLv3, and in 2026 he released MagiC 6.30 for Atari computers. It is a recent release and well worth a look.
To make it easy to try, we built the MagiC ROM Builder. It builds MagiC 6.30 from the official sources into a 256 KB ROM image that boots in place of TOS, plus the boot floppy or hard disk files it loads its desktop from. Everything runs in your browser.
- Load the ROM image in the SidecarTridge TOS Emulator on an STE or Mega STE, or on an ST or Mega ST with the SidecarTridge 256KB Decoder.
